Hollywood can be a foul beast. Apparently, they don’t like making movies with all black casts because movies like that don’t make money.

But every so often a movie comes along  where making money doesn’t matter. It’s the sort of movie that tells the right story to honor those who deserve it most. I’m here to tell you Red Tails is that movie. And the Tuskegee Airmen are those heroes.

Now, if you’re a white person, the folks in Hollywood are expecting you to skip this film because the heroes are African Americans. Instead of Obi-Wan, you get a brotha named Lightning. And while there’s no Jar Jar Binks (thank God) the  Caucasian types are Nazis and military racists. Your excitement is palpable.

But missing this movie is like ditching class the day you learn one of life’s great history lessons about inspiration and the true beginners of Civil Rights in America. So if you still need a little push to go see the movie, I’ve prepared a little something just for you – the 10 reasons white people should watch Red Tails.

1. The Humble Badass Factor

When it comes to cool, there’s two kinds; normal cool and real cool. Tuskegee Airmen are the latter. Their coolness isn’t weak sauce wide receiver flashy cool, it’s subtle and smooth – a perfect blend of humility, heroism and the genuine badass factor. Some people may go their entire life without meeting the elusive “real cool” person, but all you have to do is find a Tuskegee Airman. Watching Red Tails is motivation to go meet one in the wild before this kind of coolness passes from the earth.

2. Nazi Ass Whooping

Let’s be real. There are a lot of white people who deserve a good ol’ ass whooping. Watch Red Tails and witness a band of brothers put on a Nazi beat down. Zay guten tag to my P-51 Mustang!

3. The Hot Italian Babe

She’s in the movie. Multiple times. Enough said.

4. It’s a True Story

Got History? This movie does. From Nazi beat downs, to pre-mission boozing to the reality of segregation during WWII – Red Tails is the story of something that really happened. Go learn something yo.

5. Star Wars

Proof: We know it’s true George Lucas produced Stars Wars. And you liked Star Wars. Moreover, Star Wars features things that fly. And we know you like flying things. Thus, you will like Red Tails, which was produced by George Lucas and has many flying things. True, this is.

6. You Respect Good Defense

Whether you care if the Crimson Tide is rolling or not, you must hand it to coach Nick Saban and the Alabama national champs. They watched Red Tails before the national title game and then systematically destroyed LSU by a count of 21 to goose egg. How does one calculate the value of inspiration? Well, look no further than Les Miles. He showed his team the movie Contraband. Moral of the story, Red Tails will inspire you. The other movie you’re planning to watch – probably won’t.

7. Dog Fights

There be dog fights and humor in Red Tails.

8. Stick it to Hollywood

According to George Lucas, Hollywood didn’t like Red Tails because it has an all black cast. Apparently, in the movie business, this is a no-no since it’s bad for the bottom line. I find this somewhere between truly sad and absurd. So go see the film and prove to the Hollywood brass some things matter more than money.

9. You Like Smart People

Now, if you ever meet a Tuskegee Airman one thing will be obvious. They are smarter and cooler than you. This was confirmed on 9 out of 9 occasions for me, where upon meeting them – I realized in 10 seconds they were operating on a totally different level– both in terms of wits, smarts and the sort of knowledge that comes from 80-90 years of overcoming war and segregation.

10. Colorless Things

The tagline for Red Tails is “courage has no color.” But this hardly does the film justice. Why? Because the Tuskegee Airmen were so much more than courage. They were about honor, respect, humor, humility, service and glory. If you still believe these are things America holds dear, Red Tails and the Tuskegee Airmen will inspire you to your own version of greatness!

This adventure all started when I was driving around the West Los Angeles VA. I was on my way to the long-term care unit (where I’m a hospice volunteer with the Twilight Brigade) when it struck me. The Wadsworth Chapel needs painted.

So began my mission to restore faith and honor to the West Los Angeles VA.

My adventure has unfolded as hundreds of phone calls, dozens of letters, 6 congressional office meetings, a slew of setbacks, a big fat pile of bureaucrat red tape and prayer of hope. Somewhere along the line I realized the significance of this little chapel. It is everything this country stands and fights for. And preserving it is worth the fight.

In God We Trust… So help me God… This is the mission to affirm them.

An IMPORTANT 11-11-11 UPDATE

We have received credible concern that several fringe groups connected with the “Occupy Movement” may less than noble intentions to be involved with the Wadsworth Chapel Event. Given such conflicting intentions and recent Occupy LA arrests, we determined it best to postpone the launch of the event and avoid putting any volunteers and veterans at risk on 11-11-11.

Of course, I am disappointed that we are not able to launch this preservation project as planned; however, we do not want to put anyone in harms way, particular veterans who are in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

A Happy History Turned Bad

The oldest building at the West Los Angeles VA is a fixer-upper of a most unusual sort. Until the 1971 Sylmar earthquake forced its closing, the Wadsworth Chapel, completed in 1900, provided dual sanctuaries separated by a double brick wall that also served to deaden the organ rumblings that emanated from either side. At the north end, old soldiers worshiped in a Catholic chapel; at the south end, they prayed as Protestants.

As the oldest building on one of the city’s most prominent and famous boulevards, it’s of critical importance.”

Since being placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, however, the building has deteriorated markedly. Intruders have set fires, burning holes in the floors and scorching wood wainscoting and pews. Empty beef jerky bags, discarded underwear and clumps of plaster litter the worn burgundy carpeting. Frayed, forlorn and peeling, the chapel needs some serious help.

The VA estimates a complete restoration would cost $11.5 million. Of course, such a restoration is not reasonable at taxpayer expense. However, we do not need to do everything at once. We can take the first step of restoration right now. By painting the chapel we achieve the highest restorative impact for the lowest price.

Truly, painting the chapel will transform and restore it to what it once was; a monument to God, country and the heroes who fought (and continue to fight) to protect honor, freedom and all of us.

Look everyone, capitalism is not evil. But the misappropriate use of it is.

The solution is simple. It’s called conscious capitalism.

Is your unconscious mind like a super computer of consciousnesses? Well, if it is, here’s a programming and personal transformation course just for you.

In 1986, at the Meninger’s psychophysiology lab, two guys named Green and Green described a way to program the unconscious mind. They called their approach the Menninger 6-Step Process for Programming the Unconscious.

The way their process plants a seed into the unconscious reminds me of something out of the movie Inception. Before you get started, just remember, you mustn’t be afraid to dream manifest a little bigger, darling.

Step 1 – Get Neutral

Move into a state of EMG quietness and peripheral warmth.  A bed, coach or comfy shag carpet all work well. The goal here is to feel and think as “neutral and blank” as possible.

Step 2 – Construct the Seed

While in the state, construct the visualization that is to be planted in the unconscious, a visualization that has already been carefully planned by the cortex, with ambiguities eliminated (for aspects of the unconscious are like a computer, and it tends to take instructions literally).

Step 3 – Get into Record Mode

Allow your awareness to sink down into the theta state with the idea that the unconscious is now listening. In a sense, you are now in “record mode.”

Step 4 – Project the Visualization

Gently project your visualization into the “field of mind” as a Gestalt (ie a form or shape), with as little left-cortex activity as possible.

Step 5 – Lock-in the Session

Terminate the session with a quiet command, such as “do it,” “so be it,” “the instruction is now terminated,” “it’s over, boom shakalaka”, or something similar in order to terminate unconscious receptivity. In a sense, this is similar to using the “enter” key in programming a computer.

Step 6 – Return

Bring awareness back to the surroundings carefully so as not to disturb the planted instruction. Then, do a happy dance because you’re all done.

Sacred Geometry and Circles

Sacred geometry is everywhere in nature: sunflowers, the nautilus, honeycomb and even hurricanes. Sacred geometry has also been used in the planning and construction of religious structures such as churches, temples, mosques, religious monuments, altars, tabernacles; as well as for sacred spaces such as temenoi, sacred groves, village greens and holy wells.

In the ancient world certain numbers had symbolic meaning, in addition to their ordinary use for counting or calculating.

Do you know someone who is a whiz with numbers, but can’t carry a conversation? Or a friend who can speak four languages, but it takes them awhile to calculate a tip? Most of us do. What’s up with these people?

Our friends have a “mono-endowed” intelligence. They are brilliant at one thing but foolish at others. Some mono-endowed intelligences are so smart they become “celebrated” and known for their incredible work, art, thoughts, abilities or skills (see examples below).

For personal evolution, we also have a responsibility to discern which types of intelligences we need to improve so we can execute our existential plan (ie our deepest purpose) and our life tasks. Sometimes being ridiculously good looking, like Zoolander, just isn’t enough.

Here are the 12 Types of Intelligence and ways to increase your personal evolution smarts.

1. Somatic Intelligence

Remember James Brown tearing it up on the dance floor? I don’t – but he makes the dance floor geniuses of this generation (Michael Jackson, Usher and Chris Brown) look like a bunch of knock-off chumps (video of James Brown). He had bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, as do athletes, builders, actors, or surgeons (if they have fine motor skills). To increase your Somatic Intelligence make crafts, ride a bike, do yoga, learn tai chi or try the Wave Dance.

2. Communicative Intelligence

People with strong Communicative Intelligence are good at organizing people and are aware of moods and motivations. They’re natural leaders. They’re good with body language, speaking and acting. To up your communication skills, practice active listening—that is, repeat back what you think someone said. I practice active listening as a hospice volunteer, but you’ll find it works in just about every type of conversation you have throughout the day.

3. Contextual Intelligence

Practical or contextual intelligence, deals with the mental activity involved in matching situations and contexts. In other words, street smarts and common sense.  To improve your Contextual Intelligence try vagabonding (spontaneous travel), starting your own business or fighting the Nazis to save your country. Each relies on making decisions based on varying situations and contexts.

4. Spatial Intelligence

Those with strong spatial intelligence can imagine, understand, and represent the visual-spatial world. They may have a good sense of direction, hand-eye coordination, and visual memory. Some people, for instance, can visualize how furniture fits in a room without measurements, or buy a scarf that matches the blue in a blouse at home (perfect “chromatic pitch”). To strengthen your spatial intelligence, be a backseat driver and provide directions for a trip, fit the groceries in the bag or the car, play with jigsaw puzzles and mazes, build some Lego’s or sculpt clay.

5. Evolutionary Intelligence

This type of intelligence understands (or is more lucid to) how a Consciousness/Soul/Spirit/Essence (ie your Non-Physical Self) is evolving over lifetimes and millenniums. They know  about their past lives and show a high literacy for  multi-dimensional physics, karmic effect and cosmo-ethics.  They are also more “universalistic” (tolerant, peaceful and respectful of diversity) since they are lucid to past lives and beings and beliefs in other dimensions.  If you’ve heard the expression “He or She has an old soul” it probably refers to someone with a high Evolutionary Intelligence.  Increase your Evolutionary Intelligence by exploring the nature of reality, the nature of yourself or by hiring a life coach. Linguistic intelligence reflects the ability to read, write, tell stories, and learn languages, grammar, and syntax. Strengthen this ability by studying a new language, improving vocabulary and writing. 7. Internal Intelligence

Internal Intelligence (also called Crystallized Intelligence) is the ability to bring previously acquired, sometimes culturally defined, problem-solving methods to bear on current problem. To increase your Internal Intelligence play a game of chess, start a business or join a volunteer organization.

Psychic intelligence is a measure of how intuitively perceptive you are and how willing you are to trust and act on those perceptions (think Jedi Masters). People with a high Psychic Intelligence have OBEs (astral projections), communicate with non-physical beings, have clairvoyant flashes, and experience surges of synchronicities. Psychic Intelligence can be increased in may ways including having physic experiences (like the ones listed above), energy work (like practicing a VELO and reaching a Vibrational State) and playing intuitive games – like Guess Who – where you  practice reading the Thosenes (Thoughts, Energy and Emotions) of another person.

This perspective on the human condition is used by writers, philosophers, psychologists, and theologians. To improve your intrapersonal intelligence, “know thyself”—write in a journal, meditate or  learn about personalities with the Myers-Briggs test (psychological preferences such as extraversion and introversion) or the Enneagram (a theory of nine personality types—possibly centuries old).

In our current state of evolution I suggest social entrepreneurs focus on three types of intelligence for personal evolution: Internal, Communicative and Psychic. By reaching the top 1% of the intelligence type you’ll be, by definition, a genius. Being a genius in three categories makes you “tri-endowed” and ready for any personal evolution or social entrepreneurism challenge that comes your way.

Definition of Intelligence

The following definition is a composite from various authors. Intelligence is a combination of the ability to:

1. Learn. This includes all kinds of informal and formal learning via any combination of experience, education, and training.
2. Pose problems. This includes recognizing problem situations and transforming them into more clearly defined problems.
3. Solve problems. This includes solving problems, accomplishing tasks, fashioning products, and doing complex projects.

Please note the difference between “wisdom” and “intelligence.”  Wisdom is the result of experience. Intelligence is something that can be trained and developed.

Intelligence Theories

The study and measurement of intelligence has been an important research topic for nearly 100 years. There is no clear agreement as to what constitutes IQ or how to measure it. There is an extensive and continually growing collection of research papers on the topic. Howard Gardner (1983, 1993), Robert Sternberg (1988, 1997), and David Perkins (1995) have written widely sold books that summarize the literature and present their own specific points of view.

2. The triarchic theory of intelligence was formulated by Robert J. Sternberg,

3. David Perkins, researcher and author, created the Educational Theory.
